A station was first built here in 1863, on the Bristol to South Wales line. The station was expanded when the line to Clifton Down was built, and by the end of 1891 there were four tracks (and platforms) open. Nowadays it is only used by trains to and from Gloucester and Avonmouth - all other trains speeding through without stopping.
Although there are only two tracks left you can still see traces of where the other two were towards the left of the picture below.
