Montpelier station was first opened in October 1874 as Montpellier, on the line from Temple Meads to Clifton Down. It lost the second "l" in 1885.

It may be hard to believe now, but in its heyday there were a dozen or so people working here, and even as late as 1950 there were 8 employees based here. No sign of them now though...

It's hard to imagine now, but there were many railway buildings here and even a goods yard, which I seem to remember became a coal merchant's yard. Now there is only the one track left and nature has reclaimed the other platform. A footbridge over to Cromwell Road still exists, but this is not the original. Anyone know when it was replaced?
